Yes, Cheesy "Trust Falls" Help, But Not How You Think . . .
Have you ever done a "trust fall?"
It's the one where you close your eyes and fall backward.
The way it's supposed to work:
Your teammate catches you, even though you can't see them.
The way it works in business and life:
No one catches you. But you keep falling backward anyway. You keep falling backward until your teammates learn how to succeed. This is important, especially for entrepreneurs who are often wearing multiple hats in their work. By picking low-risk projects and letting our teams fail (without the fear of being fired), we empower them to take full responsibility for the outcomes.
The only trouble is that the first few times are not only difficult and scary, but we often get a little banged up.
This is normal. It's part of the "tax" we pay for passing on the baton so we can focus on other work.
2 Minute Action
Chris Ducker took action on this by creating what he calls his "3 Lists To Freedom" when he began outsourcing work from his business.
Create your 3 lists.
- 1st List: Things you don't like doing.
- 2nd List: Things you can't do.
- 3rd List: Things you shouldn't be doing.
These lists will help you organize and start delegating tasks to others.
The Small Everyday Thing You Can Do To Improve Dramatically
It’s that time of year. Were getting closer to lots of consumption.Over spending. Over eating. Over working.
I just took some time to review some of the things I value in my life.
I wrote out a list and compared it to a list I found online.
I then started narrowing my list down.
Only 5 values allowed. Each value really had to fight for its life to stay on that list.By the end, it was tough but really clear. The next thing after this is mapping current behaviors to values and seeing where the gaps are.
2 Minute Action
Come up with some values.Narrow down the list. What small action are you doing each day that aligns with these values?
Should You Work Over The Holidays?
It’s definitely November.Lots of people are feeling the year wind down and are thinking about taking time off.The holidays are right around the corner and the cost of ads are going up exponentially. As you feel the year wind down and the market wind up, keep one thing in mind:
You are what you continually do.
All of our decisions count and we don’t get “time off” for the last few weeks of the year.If you’re working towards a goal, this isn’t necessarily the time to slow down.Take the time if you need to reflect.Take the time if you need the rest.Take the time to prioritize your family. And remember that you need those things across your day-to-day life, too. They’re not just for the holidays. If you’re starved for any of these things, you may need to take a look at why and how to adjust.Any major deficit will lead to a binge—and that’s not a sustainable habit,
2 Minute Action
What are the things you binge on while on vacation or during a holiday? How can you get more of that during your regular habits?“TV” isn’t a good answer. “Rest and relaxation” or “time away from making decisions” are better examples, because that’s really what you’re getting at.Take 2 minutes to reflect on this and create a list. After you’ve got a list, you’re now set to take actionThat part is up to you.
