Why You Shouldn’t Be The Hero
Being a hero is sexy.
Everyone grows up wanting to wear a mask and have super powers.
The trouble is that while the idea of super-hero powers is attractive, it’s not functional.
Unless you have found a glowing vat of toxic waste and survive contact, you can probably kiss this dream goodbye. In fact, you can also kiss other types of heroism goodbye. Like:
- Working 100 hour weeks.
- Never taking breaks.
- Missing your kids’ baseball games.
The list goes on.
You don’t have to suffer to be productive or successful.
I’m going to say that one more time to help it sink in. You don’t have to suffer to be productive or successful.
If your work requires heroism to get the job done, your process is broken.
There are plenty of people who are more successful and productive than you and who are also happy.

Your Secret Superpower . . .
I saw this on the Twitter machine a while back and it has been popping into my head recently:It takes 2 minutes, people.I can tell you about tactics and methods and frameworks and hacks and tips until we’re both blue in the face, but what is it that you’re working on?Is it worth the effort you’re putting in?Who is it helping? It might be worth looking into now, before your timer runs out and you begin to look back and wonder why you worked so hard—and for whom.
2 Minute Action:
Tell someone you appreciate their hard work , today.Send an old friend a text and let them know you are thinking of them.Leave a kind, anonymous post-it on a coworkers desk. You have more power than you think to change things around you.And the cool part is that it only takes 2 minutes.
Do You Have An Origin Story
Peter Parker was bitten by a radio active spider. It gave him super strength, a spidey sense, and web throwing abilities. At first, the power gave the teen a much needed sense of control and confidence over his life.It wasn’t until his Uncle Ben died that he realized that this new found power made him an important steward of the planet and a caretaker of people. So he became Spider-Man.We are all faced with a choice. We can spend our lives working for nothing, working selfishly, working for others, or the last option; working for others while also working for ourselves. We each have an origin story. Its our narrative and it’s our responsibility to choose what happens with it.Peter Parker didn’t ask for super powers—just like none of us asked for the adversities we’ve faced. The choice of how we respond to these circumstances is where we create ourselves and our life’s purpose. It’s up to us.What happens to us is not in our control. What we do next absolutely is.
2 Minute Action:
What is your origin story? Can you spend 2 minutes talking yourself through it?What will you do with this now that you know? You have everything you need to build something important and impactful. You don’t have an eternity to make it happen.Would it make a difference if you knew it only took 2 minutes to start?
